Keeping a Character Journal

Character journals are great places to work out motivations, and to record a character's personal thoughts on the situations that surround them. If you'd like to start one, just follow the steps below.

  • Start a thread named after your character, that offers some indication it's a journal thread. Example: Severus Snape's journal is labelled "Severus Snape's Journal". Other good titles might be "Diary of [Character Name]" or "[Character Name]'s Notebook".
  • Put a date stamp at the top of each entry -- at least a year, if you're not quite sure when it takes place. Example: *~Year, # of Month~*
  • Remember that what you read in other people's journals cannot be used in IC interactions. You know these things, but your character doesn't.
Quidquid latine dictum sil altum viditur.

"It has been said that man is a rational animal. All my life I have been looking for evidence which could support this." - Bertrand Russell
